CH 7 – “Dream and Reality” – The Deadbeat Master and Genius Disciple’s Misunderstood Workshop

(TL Note: This was a pain in the ass to translate.)

He stands in the middle of a grassy plain which spreads out forever, as if the personification of freedom.

It was neither too hot nor too cold.
Warm sunlight calmly illuminated the ground.
In this warm weather, he says the first thing that comes to his mind.

[I feel kind of sleepy……]

As at almost the same time of him thinking this―― a soft, inviting bed suddenly appeared before his very eyes.

No matter how you look at it, this is an obvious abnormal phenomenon.
But the thought of this being strange did not show on his face. All he did was laid down while facing up and stretched in a comfortable way.

He yawns as he looks up at the sky.

Isolated white clouds floated in the blue sky.
Certainly, if you roll back the clock and compare the view from different times you would be hard pressed to find any difference. This scenery is a bit boring while at the safe time brings him a great sense of relief.

He laid there absentmindedly like this for a while, until there was a change in one of the clouds. He realizes this and narrows his eyes.

An infinite number of haze like clusters are faintly shining.
From the heavens these clusters start to overflow from underneath that cloud. They begin to chase each other as they dance around in the blue sky.
Eventually, a circle of light, which is similar to a rainbow, was formed in the sky.
As I carefully observed the circle of light, just like patterns on the moon’s surface or the alignment of the stars, depending on how you interpret them “letter” or “picture” like patterns can be seen lining up and moving.

[Corona of Dunamis.]

In myths one of the main gods known as the Gods of Creation, Dunamis is said to oversee the world with his “eye”. Among the people of the continent it is commonly called this. It’s a kind of nature magical phenomenon.
Of all the magical phenomenon which exist, the explanations of this ring of light and the pattern that appears in it has deteriorated. Regarding the history if magic, it has a very important meaning.

Although, since he is relaxing now there is no way that any of this has anything to do with him. The fantasy-like scene only helped to make him feel even more drowsy.

[Ah~ being free is the best. There is no doubt that humans should be free from all responsibilities and should live their lives how they want.]

He once again let’s out a big yawn and nods happily as he closes his eyes. As he slowly sets off to the land of dreams――.
But then.

In this world where there should be no one else but him, a small voice could be heard reverberating.

[What is that?]

Since he was disturbed as he was falling asleep, he grumbles in an upset tone as he opens his eyes.

――But he is struck dumbfounded at the sight that has appeared before him.

A pitch-black cloud that spirals as it covers the sky.
The Corona of Dunamis which was glittering in many colors spins at a high speed.
The ground around the bed has turned to a reddish brown, and a large amount of stone pillars are spread around like grave markers.

This repulsive scenery looked like the end of days had come.

He has no idea what is going on. All he could is shakily get up from the bed and look up at the sky in blank surprise.

As he does this, that mystery voice once again reverberated throughout the world.
That voice snapped him back to his senses. And he screamed in a voice mixed with both equal parts of fear and anger.

[Who the hell are you?! What the hell are you saying!?]

At that moment, that world which went from one extreme change to the next came to a clam still, as if time itself had stopped. Then everything in the word was dyed in a sepia.

No, that’s wrong. Only one thing was left with a hint of color.
“Corona of Dunamis”. Only this maintained its vivid colors.

Leaving alone the man who is just standing there with his mouth flapping and not saying a word, another change was happening in the ring of light in the sky. An enormous green perfect circle appeared in the center of the ring.

As this unfound horror terrifies him, he feels a sense of deja vu when looking at the emerald circle.
Just where has he seen this before? He tried to escape from reality but――.

――He finally was able to recognize the words…from the voice he had heard from before.

[……Papa ……]

[……Papa ……]

[……Papa ……]

――Oh, that’s right……he finally realizes as he shows a forced smile.

This sky, this eye ―― the one I gave the name Shalltear, this is the eye of that girl…!

[AGHHHH!] Granite

As I let out a pathetic scream, I woke up on the sofa I slept on.

W,What was with that vision-like nightmare I just had.
Was it an attack!? Was I attacked by some hard to describe curse?

Ho, I don’t know who did this, but bring it on!
I, the freedom loving alchemist Granite Range, will be your opponent.
Acknowledgment? Responsibility? To hell with that! Such mental attacks won’t work on me!!!

While trembling in the remnants of fear, I strained out the little courage I had and looked around the room as I was breathing erratically through my nose.

[…………] Granite

The material shelf with a lot of empty spaces.
The alchemy pot where I can still feel some residual heat.
The luminous stones which are weakly flickering.

Where I am now is my normal workshop, and I can see no one else but I has entered.

[……fuu ……. It was all simply…a dream? Scaring me like that…… That’s right. I am a pa….no that’s wrong. I um, there is no child that would call me by that cursed word that ruins a person’s life. ALL of it was just my imagination――.] Granite

―― Bam!

[Are you ok?] Shalltear (TL Note: Since granite has just named her he hasn’t actually called her by her nickname shar yet. So, I will only use it when he mentions it outside of the flashback scenes.)

As I saw the young girl who slammed the door open, I once again screamed.

As I shook of the shadow of that horrid nightmare, before I realized Shalltear had come to my side and was worriedly looking up at me. I decided to make super important request of her.
I won’t have her ever call me that accursed word again.

[Now listen, make sure to call me “master”.] Granite

[Huh!? Uhm, ok but, more importantly――] Shalltear

[I don’t want to hear anything else. There is nothing more important than this.
Now repeat it!] Granite

[Y,Yes! ma….Master!] Shalltear

[Yes, that’s right. That is correct. Now listen, make sure to pay attention. Our relationship is that of a master and a disciple. When speaking of the relationships between one person and another, what you call the person and how you speak to them always come first. Since you have become my disciple I will be strict with this.] Granite

[I, understand.] Shar

As I strictly argued this point, I coaxed her into calling me master.
I may have quickly spoken to her in a cold way but I’m sure it’s me just overthinking things. I’m probably sure.

I finally catch my breath after nipping that in the bud.

As I threw off the blanket that was still hanging on me, I put my feet on the floor as I sit up in the sofa.
Even after I sit I look down at the small head of Shalltear who has her hands gripped tightly to her chest as she stares at me.

…Hah. Honestly what was with that nightmare.

I thought I didn’t have much of an imagination but in my subconscious an enormous sub-space was built… This is the first time in my life I’ve ever seen such a vivid dream.
Besides my mood, my body itself is feeling a bit sluggish.

Maybe I am actually feeling a bit under the weather.
Or maybe due to all the severe shocks piling up, did the door to my subconscious opened?
Well it doesn’t really matter… Just to be safe, if I drink some vitamin enhanced medicine then…

As I sighed, Shalltear was there and responded in a worrying tone.

[U,Um… M,Master. Are you, truly okay? Earlier you…?] Shar

[Earlier?] Granite

What happened earlier? I can’t think straight…….Oh.

[You, yelled in a, loud voice saying “Ahhh”…] Shalltear

As Shalltear timidly spoke, I was cursing myself in my head.

That’s right…
I was so focused on doing something about that accursed word that I forgot to make up a reason for why I was screaming.

Maybe, I should just honestly tell her?

(I had a nightmare and I unknowingly screamed in terror. Hahaha.)

…That won’t work. Just now I just spoke about our different standpoints. That line doesn’t have a shred of dignity in it…
For the sake of my sanity I will do all I can to keep as much distance as possible from that word that starts with “p”!
I must have Shalltear recognize our relationship as that of a master and disciple and nothing else, at all costs!

[……Stagnant magic…yes stagnant magic had somewhat accumulated in my body. I realized that stagnant magic outside of my body by yelling “Ahhh” in a loud voice. There is no reason to worry.]

[I,Is that so.]

As Shalltear stared blankly at me, I nodded to her in a dignified manner.

That’s right.
This is the first time I’ve ever heard someone could do that.
It is a surprise―.

……It seems like i’m going over the top with this, but it’s better than admitting that “I screamed out of terror”. Definitely better.

The nightmare, or rather the stagnant magic is the main fault here!

――By the way in normal society, when you want to skip work or school one of the convenient excuses you can use is to complain of a sudden stomach ache or say something unfortunate happened to your family. If you leave “stagnant magic” unattended for too long, it can cause many disorders in the body and also many problems will be solved (superficially speaking)!

Furthermore, that sorcery, healing, nor medicine has no effect. And the fact that only taking “a proper rest” is the only method to do deal with this, is a splendid point.

Because, people have what is called the “Hyle Spirit Pulse” different individuals have their spiritual nature regulated by this mysterious and complicated group of organisms exist. It’s not like I am moving of my own free will, it’s just like how the heart moves on its own, so there is nothing I can do.

When using magic according to the conceptual effect as you extract magic, especially when you are moving around a lot or when you barely understand what is going on, as soon as you throw out a hard to grasp disorder like “stagnant magic” then it becomes difficult for others to deal with you.

Well in summary.

―― Ignorance is great!

That’s about all there is.
Indeed, it is truly an alchemist like way of thinking.

As I was thinking all kind of things, “You are definitely not my daughter, you became my pupil for the really dry reason of us having a mutual urgent need of one another” also known as Shalltear had continuously stared at me.

[I…..I am, truly happy to hear, you’re ok.] Shalltear

With, sigh of relief she finally showed a relaxed expression.

Somehow, Shalltear finally was able to understand that “the person she made a contract with”, a.k.a me, has nothing wrong with him.

Oh, it’s been a crazy ever since I got up.

CH 8 – “A Handshake Bathed in Blood” – Reincarnated as a Dark Elf ~The strongest magician conquers a parallel world~

(TL Note: Once again the problem with 1st and 3rd person pov rears its ugly head. I’m going to try and keep it 3rd person unless the author actually uses the pronoun “I” when it comes to text that is not a conversation. Pray for my soul.)

Well, I’ve killed the lowlifes, now what should I do?
Of course, meeting the Princess, become acquainted with her, and landing into her good graces would be the best course of action.

Or, that was the main reason behind infiltrating the party, and why Celica is straddling such a big sword.

Then she should quickly land and greet the Princess, but she is hesitating.

Of course, there is no change in plan to the Princess accommodate Celica while taking advantage of the many conveniences that the position brings. Celica is worrying on just how she is going to accomplish this?

A dagger was held in the hands of the Princess.
It is not directed to Celica.
Neither is it directed towards the attackers.
That blade was directed to the Princess herself.
During the battle, the Princess constantly placed the blade against her own throat.
If she were to be captured and humiliated by the attackers, then she intended to bravely take her own life.
What a scrappy young lady.
However, it is not something to be happy over.

The image Celica had of Lunelize was that of a gentle girl, or a ditzy girl.

During the day, she grows roses in the palace’s greenhouse and at night she relaxes in an easy chair while doing embroidery. This was Celica’s image of Lunelize.

―― At least that is the image Celica had after acquiring information from the newspaper and other sources.
But, if you actually meet the Princess, there are no girls from good families who are as dignified as her.
Here is a dignified Princess who if she is to be disgraced and humiliated would rather take her own life.

Celica is now greatly questioning whether the Princess will obey her if Celica were to use her strength to threaten her.

(But, all I can do is try.)

Coming this far and doing nothing is not an option.
Celica will make the Princess yield to her with her mighty magical power in the future.
If in that process the Princess takes her own life, then it cannot be helped.
It just means that there was no “fate” between them.
As Celica told herself this, she flew down and landed.
She then stood in front of the Princess.

The man wearing a butler’s uniform stands in between them saying,
[Your Highness, leave this to me, so please retreat.] Butler

He is quite courageous. Even after seeing the scene of slaughter earlier, he is not showing any signs of being afraid.

Although he is a loyal and brave gentleman, he is in the way.
Let’s have him die, the moment Celica thought this and sent magical power into the sword, Lunelize stepped forward and stopped the butler.

[Sebas, you surely saw the power of this person. Even a master gunner such as yourself cannot defeat her.] Lunelize
(TL Note: We have another butler named Sebas. I wonder if her likes skeletons too.)

She continued.

[This person protected us from the attackers. we do not know what their “final objective” is, but we should give our thanks for helping us.] Lunelize

And while deeply lowering her head she said,

[Thank you very much. I do not know who you are or where you came from, but I thank you for saving us from this predicament.] Lunelize

What a splendid show of gratitude.
It was not a show, so she could save face, but an honest show of gratitude from the bottom of her heart.

If Celica was just a normal girl, she would probably yield to the Princess on the spot and swear loyalty to her. This is how dignified Lunelize was at that time. But unfortunately, Celica was not an ordinary girl.

Celica thought the person who should yield and swear loyalty isn’t Celica but the Princess.
That is why Celica spoke without reservation and said.

[Your Highness, it is the first time I am making your acquaintance. My name is Celica Desself.] Celica

[I have never heard of your name. With the ability to use a treasured sword, are you by the daughter of some noble.] Lunelize

[No, I am not someone of such importance. I am just the daughter of a low-level official.
―― Well, let’s just leave it at that. Explaining my background, can come after we finalize the contract.] Celica

[Contract?] Lunelize

[Yes, the contract that will tie the two of us.] Lunelize

[Contract? Little girl!! Do you any Idea of the person to whom you are speaking with?] Sebas

The one who had a sudden outburst of anger was the butler Sebas.
Since he was being noisy I moved to silence him, but Lunelize beat me to the punch.

[Sebas, please keep quiet for a while. I want to talk to this person until the end.] Lunelize

[…………] Sebas

Sebas fell silent. His life has been saved.

[A smart choice, Sebas. By the way, I know who this person is. She is the Fourth Imperial Princess Lunelize. I knew as I was saving but regardless of this I took an oppressive stance when negotiating with the Princess. As to why I did this, I intend to have you come under my control.] Celica (TL Note: So, this phrase under your control can also mean slavery and subordination. Due to how the story will progress from here I wanted to avoid using the word slavery. But if the story changes I will update all future uses of this term.)

[Under your control?] Lunelize

[I will have you become someone who will follow everything I say.] Celica

[Why must I meet such a fate?] Lunelize

[For the sake of my career and the future of this county.] Celica

[The future of this country?] Lunelize

[You also saw what just occurred. Sleazebags who wanted to attack a young girl in order to push the Emperor to start a war with a neighboring country. Lowlifes who enjoy a one-sided a massacre and defile women. There are people many people like this in the upper echelons of this country. I wish to clean them out with one fell swoop.] Celica

[Is there any guarantee that if after you’ve come into power you won’t become corrupt as well.] Lunelize

[There is none. That is why I want power in order to confirm if that will happen.] Celica

[…I understand. I shall pledge myself to be under your control.] Lunelize

[It is true to one needs courage to submit to the control of someone else. Let alone the fact that you are royalty, I’m sure your self-respect won’t allow for you to be ordered around by a commoner. But, even then I…] Celica

Then my words were stopped mid-sentence.
Celica felt that the Princess said something outrageous before she started her speech.
Celica asks her to say those words one more time.

[I said I understand. From today I will be under your control.] Lunelize

[…………] Celica

[Do you find it hard to believe?] Lunelize

[Yes, I cannot believe it. You accepted all of this too quickly. I cannot believe that a prideful princess who is willing to take her own life would readily yield to a commoner.] Celica

[There is no such thing as a commoner or a noble when it comes to changing the world. You said that you will change this world. And you have the power to change this world. That is enough for me now.] Lunelize

[……What a strange princess.] Celica

[I am often told that.] Lunelize

[But, I can’t trust you with just words alone. I want a symbol of our contract.] Celica

As Celica said this, Lunelize opened her dress and exposed her chest.
(TL Note: I went with chest instead of breasts because both girls here are still like 8 years old. So that would be weird.)

The butler tried to stop her, but she would not quit.
Lunelize inscribed a seal on her bare chest with a dagger.
From the chest where the magic square was engraved, an almost endless amount of blood was flowing.
(TL Note: The author actually wrote 魔方陣 which means magic square.)

[If you are a magician then you should know what this is. If you place curse on a seal you wrote with your own will, a strong restriction will be placed. Now please place the restriction.] Lunelize

[Are you okay with this?] Celica

Celica asks in order to confirm what’s happening.

[Yes, I do not mind.] Lunelize

[Well then, I shall place the restriction.] Celica

Celica touches her chest and sends magical power into the seal.
Her heart shined with a pale light.

[―― The contents of the constraint is a curse where if I tell you to die then you will die. In short, I hold the rights to whether Your Highness lives or dies.] Celica

[Well that is quite a lot. With this I will not be able to betray you.] Lunelize

[Yes, if you betray me, you will die. By the way it is useless to pretend to obey me. I can read a person’s heart. If you lie, I will immediately see through it.] Celica

Celica used the abilities she received from God.
The ability to confirm any hostility someone holds towards her.
A dubious light fills Celica’s magic eyes.

The answer given by her magic eyes is led by that demon was that the girl named Imperial Princess Lunelize was dressed.

Her body was wrapped in a white aura.
That is to say Lunelize is friendly towards Celica.
This girl, perfectly trusts Celica even though they just met.
Just what is this girl made of?
As Celica thought this, she didn’t put her thoughts to words. All she did was stretch out her hand and said.

[Now then Your Highness, I look forward to your accommodations from now on. In order to reform this rotten country.] Celica

It is my pleasure to count myself on your side. But as long as you are the ideal witch.] Lunelize

With this the alliance between the Witch and the Princess was quietly formed.

With this handshake bathed in blood, the fate of the empire changed drastically. But this event was never mentioned in any history book.

CH 7 – “Gefarnate Engel” – Reincarnated as a Dark Elf ~The strongest magician conquers a parallel world~

(TL Note: This chapter has some graphic scenes. Those who are not comfortable with please don’t read on. Also, there was a typo in the title, I fixed it so it made sense with the rest of the story.)

A demon with an angel ‘s face, or an angel with a demon’s face, in a pink dress left the nobleman’s mansion.

Celica borrowed something from the nobleman’s mansion.
That something was an antique weapon that was in the mansion.

In the noble’s mansion where the party was held, my mother’s place of work, the family has a military lineage and has served as military personnel for generations. That is why there are suitable weapons everywhere.

Out of the weapons there, Celica borrowed three of the biggest Zweihänder swords.

Zweihänder is a big sword that is held with both hands.
As she looked up, the blade is bigger than Celica.
In the display case where this big sword was kept, the sword’s history was written down.

[The head of the first generation of the Dreahit family, used this large sword to slay a large dragon and built the foundation of the Grantz empire.]

This exaggerated legend was written there.

By the way, since there are dragons and goblins in this world, that legend may be true.

In short, this sword is the heirloom of Dreahit family.
If this sword disappears, the Dreahit family will be in an uproar.

If anyone finds out, not only will mother be fired, in order to take responsibility, the parent and child may be sent to forced labor camps.

Even with such outrageous penalties waiting, Celica didn’t take these swords without thinking.

There are two reasons for bringing this large sword.

First, this large sword certainly contains magical power just as the legend told, and it seems it will be of great use in the upcoming battle.

Second, the Dreahit household is in an uproar about the dead body found in a men’s restroom. If it’s now no one should notice the sword is missing.

These are the reasons.

In other words, Celica will use this large sword, quickly rescue Lunelize, and take advantage of the turmoil to return the treasure sword to its original position.

She doesn’t know if it will go well, but it seemed to be the best way to save Lunelize, and she couldn’t come up with anything else.

Celica looks in the direction of the ambush on Lunelize which the man, who was killed a while ago, gave up.
It is about 5 kilometers southwest from this mansion.

It is a bridge leading to an area where the villas of royal family are built.

So now, the evildoers who are aiming for Lunelize are on the alert and waiting there.

Celica climbs on and straddles the big sword she will use to save Lunelize.
When she confirmed that the big sword began to glow a pale light, Celica casted a spell.

[ Because only iron saves us,
Because only blood rectifies,
From the crimes of heavy iron chains,
From the sins of evil arrogance.]

As she unleashed the spell, the big sword began to grow brighter.
The large sword became buoyant, and the girl straddling it started to float in the air.

[――Wonderful. Truly wonderful. So, this is magic.] Celica

She grinned. A devilish smile covered her face.

Celica knew that there is magic in this world, but it was the first time she actually used it.

She was worried if it would work, but apparently it seems her magical talent is quite high.

[God granted me an unwanted death and new body, but in exchange it seems that God gave me plenty of good stuff in this reincarnated body] Celica

With that big sword lightly floating and the girl that is straddling the sword, it looks like a broom that a witch would fly on.

In this world the existences with magic power called “magicians” ride such treasure swords and weapons, and played a role like modern aircraft fighters and tanks during war.

If Celica enters the military academy, and is recruited for her aptitude, she will definitely be trained as a magician.

This will greatly serve in all of Celica’s plans.

[Even though I was forced to be in a body that can only pee sitting down, having this magic power alone makes it worth it.] Celica

After doing something unusual as thanking God, she supplies magic to the large sword and increases the buoyancy.

After flying over several dozen meters in the sky, Celica rode the big sword to the point of the ambush.

The large sword flew at the speed of a fighter aircraft.

The large sword left magical residue and it looked like a comet was gliding through the night sky.

I arrive at the problem point in no time.

The ambush had already started.
The continuous sounds of gunfire and swords clashing could be heard.
That place was just like battlefield.

Lunelize group looked like they prepared a proper escort befitting someone of the imperial family, but the raiders seemed to have prepared even more troops.

Clearly the Lunelize group was struggling.
A circle of dead bodies could be found around the girl.

Even though a majority of the escorts have been killed, their fighting spirit didn’t wane. They may deserve praise, in a way, trying to fight to the end.

Meanwhile, what about the attackers’ side.
Without using the full force of the large army they had, they went with only a small group of attackers and couldn’t land the decisive blow.

[Honestly, these people do not know the s in strategy. If I was attacking, I would kidnap the princess in a more brilliant manner――] Celica

Celica stopped talking because she remembered that she is on the princess’s side and not the attackers.

The good fight the Princess’s side was putting on was a blessing for Celica.

[Well then, I think I’ll go play “Hero”.] Celica

If you look at it, the attacker’s side was the bad guys no matter how you put it.
They are ruthlessly killing the escorts of Lunelize.
They are even killing those who are begging for their lives without mercy.
Lunelize young handmaidens are becoming the playthings of the attackers.
I can see a number of low-lives laughing vulgarly while shaking their hips.

[―― I see no reason for me to hold back] Celica

As she spoke these words, Celica began to cast a spell.

[Cold that shuts out the sunlight
Let the atmosphere become a blade
Carve it into the husk,
The melody of death!]

As she finished casting the spell, the two large swords that floated around Celica began to vibrate.
The large swords started to move as if they have a will of their own, and then they flew toward the attackers.
They cut the heads of the attackers who were mercilessly shooting the princess’s escorts.
It seems even a sleazebag’s blood is red.
The swords stabbed the stomachs of the men who were trampling on the dignity of women below.
The bastards were scattered in pieces.

The large swords, which became weapons of mass murder, ran around the battlefield as if they were dancing and killed the attackers one after another.

Looking at the sight in front of him, a man who was standing at the side of the princess wearing a butler’s uniform muttered.

[T,This is a magician ……] Butler

This is not just a normal magician.

A magician of “Supervisor” class who can manipulate a treasure sword, no, “Strategy” class magician who can kill an infantry battalion by himself. Is such an existence saving us now?

The butler looks up at Celica in the sky.
The Princess Lunelize also does the same.
Celica, who is floating in the air, smiles like a witch.
As Lunelize saw that figure, she spoke while grinding her teeth.

[…Gefarner Engel (Fallen Angel)] Lunelize

And that was the encounter of the girl with a past life Celica and the Imperial Princess Lunelize.

CH 6 – “Papa” – The Deadbeat Master and Genius Disciple’s Misunderstood Workshop

I sighed and placed my hand on my forehead as several emotions were swelling inside of me. I tried to calm my emotions.

Then I called out to the small shivering butt in front of me.

[…Are you ok?] Granite

[…Yes…] Child

After a long period of silence, the girl responded in a voice comparable to the cry of a mosquito.
Not long after this, she faced toward me and rolled herself into a ball by grabbing her knees.

[……] Granite

Yeah, this is probably that.
She is probably so embarrassed that she can’t even lift her head.

She is so sad… It’s at the level where I feel inclined to immediately do something nice for her.

As I sighed again, I picked up the robe the girl threw away and went behind her to place it on her shoulders.

Then I walked to the front of her and as I prayed, to a god I don’t believe in, that she won’t have another hysterical fit, I spoke to her.

I felt like a beast tamer.

[Um, well. Let me correct the misunderstanding you currently have.] Granite

As he said this the young girl finally raised her head.

Both of her eyes were stained with tears, and due to the excitement from earlier, her sunken cheeks are tinged red.

However, she has calmed down and lost that crazy feeling she had before. I placed my hand on my chest to calm myself.

[First, I didn’t bring you here to sacrifice you. When I said to be of benefit to me, I didn’t mean it in that sort of way. …Are we clear? I will repeat myself. I have no intention of sacrificing you.] Granite

[…Huh?] Child

The young girl opened her eyes wide as if she was shocked from the bottom of her heart.

Ugh. How much did I look like I wanted to sacrifice someone to this child?

As I was overcome with an unexplainable feeling, I stared into the green eyes of the girl and waited until she digested this new information.
The girl blinked several times in bewilderment and then timidly asked.

[Then…why…why? nothing, else I can do.] Child

Oh…, so I finally have gotten through to her.
I looked down at the girl who fearfully had her upturned eyes focused on me. When I think about how many idiotic mistakes have happened to finally get to this point; I sigh to myself as I have lost count of how many times it’s been today.

But with this I can finally move on to the important conversation at hand.

Well then how should I go about this…..

If I don’t choose my words carefully then my hope for a someone to support me might turn into me making her “work for me like a slave”.

…Still the fact that she seems like she would be ok with that is kind of scary. I would be in trouble if she wanted out of our arrangement later on. What I say at this moment is very important.

It seems it is time to change out the luminous stones. The light in the workshop has dimmed, and the light has become somewhat weaker. Beside the sounds of the heated alchemy pot and the occasional sound of our clothes rustling, it is quiet.

I don’t know whether I should be relieved or worried. I thought this as the little girl stared at me waiting for my response.

I unconsciously licked my lips.

Earlier, the tears she cried after eating the food I made.
Honestly, I felt that her crying was beautiful and I could feel her gratitude towards me.
I’m sure she is an honest and kind kid that you wouldn’t think is from the slums. This is what I think.

――But even so.

She is probably only grateful for what you would call “one good meal and a good night’s rest.”.
I have no expectations of her maintaining these feeling in the future.
To feel an unchanging debt of gratitude to someone over something seems easy but is actually quite difficult. This I know for sure. People just don’t become that strongly attached to someone.

For example, even though she feels strongly enough to say “I will become a sacrifice”, these feelings will eventually become null.
Heat is something that without an outside factor it will disperse. This is a law of nature and I’m sure the same also goes for human emotions.

――Therefore, when tying a person down, using something as uncertain as a debt of gratitude is nothing more than kindling to a fire. You need to show a clear benefit and continue to stimulate their wants and desires.

So, concerning this girl what are her “benefits” and “desires”?

…Remember. Think.
What kind of reactions did she show to what I’ve said up until now?
What kind words did she throw at me?

And even though it was a misunderstanding that started from my carelessness.
Where the hell did the intense, madness-like fervent desire to sacrifice herself come from?

――Just what was the keyword?

(I don’t want to die alone.)

She definitely said that…
What does she mean? What would cause her to act so boldly?
She must have circumstances beyond my imagination.

But there is no need, at least right now, to consider it.

You do not need to know the circumstances if you are only making use of it.
It is only a matter of her interpreting things arbitrarily.
At least for this girl, these words, have enough desire for her to rush forward into trying to sacrifice herself…

I don’t if it was a few minutes or a few seconds.
I finished my thoughts and after putting together what I had to say, I spoke.

[Let me introduce myself now, I am Granite Range. I’m a magician that creates special items with the power of magic. ――I intend to have you learn alchemy. And you will use the techniques I teach you for my benefit. …What, I promise, as long as you are useful to me, I will continue to take your hand. I promise I never let you feel “alone”. This is the reward that I can grant you.] Granite

Then the girl looked at me with a blank face and just stared. After a while she rubbed her nose and responded in a broken sentence.

[Y,Yes…! P,Please look, after… me…!] Child

It seems I pulled the right one.
Occasionally, I can clutch it out.
Well, now I’m tired.

But then, as I was showering myself in self-praise, I suddenly came to my senses.

…… Looking at this from an outsider’s point of view, isn’t this the spitting image of a selfish adult who has deceived an innocent child?

No, I intended to do this from the and that’s why I brought her from the slums, but actually going through with it, this guilty feeling…. She seems really happy too….

Wasn’t there, you know, another way to go about this?
Was there any need to make this exchange with her so emotional?
Since I uselessly spouted lines as if I was her better, there is no way I could do something better.

As I began to experience these depressing feelings, I put the girl, whose eyes were tinged red, to bed. I opened a new ale that I had just bought that afternoon, and from then I went to bed.
(TL Note: Until now the author has only referred to the Shalltear as child or girl in the flashbacks. Here he used her name, but I know it’s a mistake so I changed it to girl. You’ll see why at the end of the chapter.)

[I am surprised you remember it so well.] Granite

Having the words, I said at that time perfectly reproduced word for word, I unconsciously let out a single complaint.
Although I felt refreshed remembering the Braised Moa Pigeon stew. I recalled another unpleasant fact……

Shar is sitting next to me shyly with her cheeks red.
While touching the tea cup letting off steam, she answered.

[Hehe, even now I sometimes dream about what happened.] Shar

Uh …
What, isn’t that too heavy? Forget it. What do you mean dream about it?
While feeling dejected, I took the teacup and had a sip.

……Huh. What the hell this is good.

[Um… So, could you please……hold my hand?] Shar

As I did a double take on the impossibly delicious tea in front of me, Shar hid her face and said something annoying.

What is it now? Have you recently been acting too spoiled? You are so impudent even though you’re an apprentice.
Keep silent and let me live my deadbeat life! Honestly, why are you so gifted? Huh?
Thank you for supporting me, sonofabitch!

As I was spouting such garbage phrases to myself, my mouth started talking almost automatically.

[Hmm. I don’t mind, but what’s wrong?] Granite

Of course, I mind. It bothers the hell out of me

[You know, “I will take your hand” …] Shar

??? I wonder why the explanation has changed.
While looking at the reckless Shar who is fidgeting in her seat, I’m frantically trying to understand what’s going on.

Is that … ah? Did you remember that?

[That reminds me, at that time Shar would always hold my hand no matter what we did, or where we went.] Granite

It was truly annoying.
I remember I quickly regretted saying “I would continue to take your hand” for a while.

[~~~~] Shar

After making me remember that, why are you the one that’s embarrassed.
I mean didn’t you just hug me earlier.
The feelings of girls around Shar’s age are a real mystery…
Fine you can do what you want, just hurry up and stick out your hand.

While thinking such things, I put out my right hand then Shar’s body trembled.

She timidly raised her face and stared at my right hand.
She shakily lifted her left hand and slowly rested her hand on mind.
At the moment our hands made contact, she closed her eyes and let out an unnecessarily amorous voice
Then she folded each finger one by one, inserted them in between my fingers and squeezed. That is when she opened her eyes, and stared at our connected hands. Her eyes were swimming as if in ecstasy.

…… What are you doing, Shalltear-san.

Beyond that, I abandoned even making fun of this situation. I then closed my eyes and decided to recall the contents of the entertainment novel I was reading yesterday.

In the country of Lacracia, the people who work in certain magic or technical professions are normally required to register with the country.
Primarily, this is to stop the flow of techniques to a foreign country and during times of war to efficiently produce ammunitions for military use. These are the two reasons for the registration.

Also, there are some benefits when it comes to the, for example taxes, so it’s not always a bad deal, but there is an apprentice program that is mandatory by law and periodic technical skill checks, so to be honest it is still annoying.

But no matter how annoying it may be, it is required.

The next day we went to the town hall to file some paperwork but――

[Range-san, are you an idiot?]

――A woman I was acquainted with insulted me in a cold tone.
She is a petite woman with long hair who probably has a distant ancestor who is from some island country
As she was wearing a proper uniform and sitting straight in her chair, she looked at me as if I was some garbage laying on the side of the road.

This woman’s name is Kaya.

She has a childish face so it’s hard to guess her age, but I’m sure she is younger than me and is around her early 20’s.

Also, one of the few people from “Fool’s Street” who is capable of functioning like a decent human is the old lady gardener. She is that Mir-san’s one and only daughter. Compared to her unbelievably cheerful mother, Kaya is the complete opposite, a tight ass.

[That is an abrupt greeting. Have I done something weird?] Granite

[Doing something weird, that’s not even the start…] Kaya

Kaya let out a long sigh as she looked at the young girl who was holding my hand and sticking next to me. She then stood up and spoke to the employee working behind her.

[Prathi-san, I’m sorry but I was wondering if you could watch the counter for a little while? I must have a conversation with this idiotic man, Range-san.] Kaya

[A,Ah. I u,understand. Please go ahead, senpai….] Prathi

[Hey, Kaya what are you playing at?] Granite

[It’s fine, just follow me.] Kaya

With a scowl on her face, Kaya led us to room with an empty sign up. After she confirmed we entered the room, she locked the door. She let out yet another sigh and then she started talking.

[Sit wherever you like. …Now just where did that child come from.] Kaya

Kaya asked this while looking back and forth at myself and the young girl who was wearing some lumpy winter clothes we picked up at a used clothes store. I answered her question with the same answer I gave earlier.

[Like I said. She is a distant relative of mine. Even though I don’t want to, I am the only one who can take her in.] Granite

[…So, you are going to stick with that story, huh? …Ugh, I understand. It’s hard to swallow but I’ll let it be. For argument’s sake let’s say that you are telling the truth. How did you bring that child into the capitol? You do know what season it is now, right? It’s the middle of winter. It’s hard to think that girl who has no other relatives but you would come from a far place all the way to the capital. Normally the prices of horse carriages during winter is high, do you know how high they are now that it’s the festival celebrating the princess’s birthday?] Kaya

[…. No matter what you say, isn’t it ok since she is here hence reason why we’ve come in the first place. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Unexpectedly there was a merchant who was overflowing with kindness and goodwill. Ok.] Granite

As I said this the little girl desperately nodded, just as we had practiced beforehand.
As she saw this, Kaya gave me a stern glare.

[Don’t sweat the small stuff, worrying about the small stuff is my job! On top of that. Unexpectedly! Are you even trying to hide that fact that your lying?] Kaya

[So annoying. Since you are like that, even though you’re an elite with a good job and have a decent face, your still single. Why don’t you try calming down a bit?] Granite

[H,HUH! T,That has nothing to do with this! And what about you! Even though your older than me, you are still single!] Kaya

[I’m doing fine. I don’t want to get married. When it comes to women, keeping it to a physical and monetary level is the best way to avoid future problems.] Granite
(TL Note: He is basically saying that it’s best to use prostitutes so he doesn’t have to deal with having a wife. This dude is the worst. lol)

[A s,sleazebag like you! A,After saying all of that how do you want me to respond!?] Kaya

[The response you’re showing right now.] Granite

[!?! H,Horrible! You are horrible! Do you enjoying messing with people? Yeah, it is fun, huh. Everyone from Fool’s Street is like that!] Kaya

[Hey hey, this is a conversation between you and I. I don’t think it’s not good to involve other people. As a public worker from the town hall, you have to be reasonable.] Granite

[Huuh!? Why do I have to be lectured at by an irresponsible person such as yourself. Uhh, this isn’t fair…I hate this…] Kaya

Letting a young girl hear this wouldn’t be the best. So something similar to common sense stirred inside of me and I covered the young girl’s ears as I nosily argued with Kaya.
Kaya became confused with teary eyes, I then searched the room looking for a way out.

[Well, let’s just leave it at that, ok? We have lot to get done today. Let us continue this some other time.] Granite

[We don’t need to do continue this nonsense! Just do whatever you wan… No no no! We still haven’t finished the main conversation.] Kaya

Tsk… We were almost out of here, she came back to her senses.

As I was frustrated by this, Kaya took several deep breaths to calm herself.
Fuu… Even though she is so petite her chest was well armored. It gave off a nice feeling…
Well I’ll forgive her for all of her rudeness up until now.

As I thought this, Kaya began to severely glare at me.
I thought she caught me staring at her, but I was wrong. She was just glaring at me.

[I want you to spill the beans.] Kaya

[Spill the beans?] Granite

[Yes. Since we are the only ones here, I want you to tell me the truth. Even though I hate to admit it, I am from Fool’s Street. Even though you all are good for nothings, I still believe there is a line that you all would not cross.] Kaya

…Is that what you call trust? It looks like you’re just giving up to me.

As I tilted my head, I realized it is true that at this rate we won’t get anywhere.
But, even though it’s been awhile since I’ve seen her. I never expected her to say anything like this. She does seem to have loosened up somewhat.

――With that in mind, I haven’t crossed any line, right?
Honestly, I’m not even sure myself. What should I do?

I sat the girl in a chair and dragged Kaya to the far corner of the room and whispered to her.
Kaya made a face as I dragged her along, but she did follow me.

[….That’s right. Hah…..Don’t get mad.] Granite

[I’m already mad so it’s fine.] Kaya

[O,Oh. I picked her up in the slums.] Granite

[See, I knew she wasn’t a relative of…Huh?] Kaya

[I said I picked her up in the slums] Granite

[…What’s wrong? Are you feeling ill? For you to do something so humane.] Kaya

[That’s uncalled for. I am perfectly fine. …It is true that I wasn’t thinking of saving her when I brought her from the slums.] Granite

[Then why did you do it?] Kaya

[…I wanted an apprentice.] Granite

[Apprentice…..Apprentice?] Kaya

I…. cut out a lot as I explained the story to Kaya. Kaya stared at me trying to search out my true intentions with her eyes. But after a while she gave up with a sigh.

Then, Kaya looked over at the girl who was sitting restlessly in her chair as she stared at us. Kaya the reluctantly muttered.

[Hmm… It doesn’t look like that girl hates you… ―― I understand. I will help to register her as your distant relative. I’m sure that girl will be happier that way.] Kaya

[…What’s wrong with you? Aren’t you the one is feeling ill?] Granite

When Kaya heard what I said, she made a displeased face.

[Even I know how hard it is for an orphan to live in the slums. I can at least be that accommodating.] Kaya

Ah, no…
I just didn’t think about it that way but…
I only thought that it would be simpler.

W,Well if she wants to take it that way then be my quest.

[Well all things considered… even if this is known to the private parts of the town hall…there is no way to confirm any of this.] Kaya

[Huh? What do you mean?] Granite

[Ugh… Truth be told, the only groups of people properly managed are people of peerage, knight and soldiers, public workers employed by the country, and craftsman such as yourself. ――Since it’s only the two of us here, besides those who are directly connected to the profits of this country, the upper nobility is strongly against properly managing other groups of people. All the while the royal family quietly folds their hands and does nothing. To be honest, they interfered with the supply of the large amount of ale for the festival from the other day. Do they have any idea how chaotic the ――] Kaya

Hey, the story is going off track.
If I leave her like this she will complain endlessly, so I cut in.

[I got it. I got it. You are having a hard time as well. So, what. If for some reason a problem arises, you can just pretend like you don’t know anything.] Granite

[Fufu. You can be considerate of others too, huh. But please don’t worry. If that time comes, both you and I will properly accept our punishment.] Kaya

[I’m sorry, let me correct what I said earlier. You are a god damn tight ass.] Granite

As Kaya softly smiled and spoke, I let out a deep sigh.

As we returned to the counter and Kaya began to get the paperwork in order. She asked me a question.

[Ah, that’s right I failed to ask this earlier. What is the child’s name?] Kaya

[………Ah!] Granite

[………Huh?] Kaya

[No, wait it’s not what you think. Just wait a bit.] Granite

[I can’t believe it…. What is with this man….?] Kaya

Kaya looked at me as if I was a dead bug lying on the side of the road. She then held her head as if she had a sudden headache.

I panicked and crouched down, and locked eyes with the young girl who was once again tightly gripping my hand.

Now that she mentioned it, it’s so obvious!
Why haven’t I asked this girl her name up until now?!
How out of it am I?

[Ehem. I’m sorry. Even though this is something I did, I have been completely, truly, and hopelessly thoughtless. I know it’s a bit too late, but can you tell me your name?] Granite

[Name?] Child

After sleeping for a full night and having a proper breakfast and lunch, her complexion looks much better. The girl looked at me with her stunning green eyes and confusedly tilted her head.

…No, why is she confused in the first place.
I’m talking about your name, your own name. Please hurry up even though I know it’s too late to be asking this.

As I thought this, I asked the child once again.

[Yes. What’s your name?] Granite

[I don’t have a name.] Shalltear.

[Huh…?] Granite

That response was so unexpected, that my mind went blank for a second.

Eh? Are you serious? Do people in the slums not have a name?
Or maybe she has been in the slums since before she could be given a name?
This girl looks to be around 10 years old.

Shit, since I don’t know any other people from the slums I can’t come to a concrete answer.

…No wait wait wait, calm down down down. That isn’t the problem right now.
If she doesn’t have one then I’ll just have to give her a name. If anything, that is more convenient. Yep that’s right.

[O…k. Then I shall give you a name. Be thankful.] Granite

Shit, I can’t think of a name of the top of my head.
Um, oh right. Oh whatever, let’s just go with that.

[From today on your name shall be “Shalltear”.] Granite

As I said this I can hear a gulping sound from above me.
As I ignored this, I stared at the fragile little face in front of me.

[Sharuteea…? That is…my name…] Shalltear

[Yes, that’s right. Well to be accurate your name is now “Shalltear Range”. Range is the family name…a name that family member’s share. Do you have any complaints?] Granite

[We…are family? I with…Magician-sama.] Shalltear

[Hm, well…that’s right?] Granite

I nodded in the moment, since we are distant relatives, we are not really family.
Well, I thought I shouldn’t sweat the small stuff. Then at this moment the girl, now henceforth Shalltear――

―― Delivered a single shocking word.

[…Papa……] Shalltear

[!!??!??] Granite

I’m sure I was put into a stupor by the profound words of this little girl.
Exactly how I spent the rest of that day, has been completely erased from my memory.

(Author’s Note: Before I realized it’s the end of August…. My my, this author is beyond help.)
(TL Note: The author is commenting on how slow he is to update. I am not in a position to judge.)

Shingan no Yuusha-Prologue 2

Several Days Later.

I was home today as well, not attending school. Today would be the same old boring day again, that is how I spent my day. But, an unexpected event happened.

As I was reading a manga in my room, suddenly a bright light appeared above my head. As I looked up to the ceiling, a magic circle with a geometric pattern design appeared above my head. I was speechless.
Then the next second my consciousness began to fade……and I sank into darkness.

When I awoke, I was in a building I’ve never seen before. This wide building’s floor, walls, and ceiling were all made of white marble. It looks like the inside of an ancient greek or roman temple that I saw in a movie a long time ago.

And to add to the surprises there was a shockingly beautiful woman in her 20’s who was standing in front of me. And she was wearing clothes that looked like the garments of a greek goddess. She is a true beauty with blond hair and azure eyes. She was just as beautiful as a goddess.

She was surrounded by something like an awe-inspiring majestic aura; it seemed godly.
And now that I am looking carefully, the woman in front of me is floating several centimeters off the ground.

—-Am I dreaming right now?

[……It seems, I have failed again.] Woman

As the beautiful woman looked down upon me, she said this in an unpleasant tone. She looked at me was if she was looking at something that bored her.

[W,Who are you? And what is this place?] Makoto

Even though I was flustered I was able to ask this question.

[I am the Goddess who rules over Time and Space, Astena. Also from your perspective this is a parallel world. The name of this word is Manastasia. I am the one that summoned you.] Astena

G,Goddess…parallel world…summon…? I must be dreaming. There is no mistake.

[In order to increase my influence, I intended to summon someone with the strength of a hero or at least someone who has the qualities to become a hero. …But once again I summoned a dud of a human.] Astena

The Goddess Astena said this while sighing and shaking her head.
Hasn’t she been insulting me for a while now?

[Your base stats are somewhat better than the original inhabitants of this world. But that’s it. If you don’t also have a special ability, then there is no way you would have military tactics. To say nothing of the fact that your soul’s glow is dull. There is no way you could become a hero or a great man of valor.] Astena

[………] Makoto

[Garbage like you is unnecessary. Not a chance.] Astena

Her last words stabbed me in my chest.
If I am called garbage then I can’t complain. But to be called unnecessary and not having a chance really shocked me.

[……Ok. If that is the case then please send me back to my world.] Makoto

I said this as while pouting.

[Sadly, I cannot grant your request.] Astena

[W,What?] Makoto

[Summoning someone from a parallel world expends a considerable amount of power, even for myself the Goddess of Time and Space. The power it takes to return someone to a parallel world is even greater. More importantly, I have no power to use for such garbage as yourself.] Astena

So, you summon me without my consent and now you won’t send me back home?

[T,That’s bullshi…] Makoto

[You are an eyesore. Away with you, garbage.] Astena

Before I could raise my voice in objection, the goddess Astena shook her hand.
In an instant, the scenery in front of me distorted. And my consciousness once again sunk into darkness.

Shingan no Yuusha-Prologue 1

My Former Daily Routine (The normal days on earth)

[—- A log craftsman’s mornings start early.]

This is what the Narrator was saying on a television program.
On a Sunday evening I was in my room laying around while the tv was on that program came on. It’s a documentary program that presents people involved in sports, theater, music, academics and etc.
This time they seem to be showcasing Nakamura Ichirou, a log craftsman.
I just finished reading a manga where someone killed a vampire with a log, so I am currently interested in log craftsmen. (TL Note: So, I think the author is referencing a manga called Higanjima. Where a dude kills vampires with logs. It’s kinda sick.)
I will actually pay attention to the program.

[Nakamura-san is a world-renowned polish log craftsman. He is a famous person who is a recipient of the Important Intangible Cultural Property award, also known as a Human National Treasure. Polishing log crafting uses Japanese cedar and Japanese cypress. When you remove the bark, and it’s polished you can use it for things like an alcove post.] Announcer (TL Host: Yeah this is an actual award in japan giving to people who are considered masters in a certain field. It like the English custom of knighthood, but less fancy and more to recognize abilities.)

Even though he was introduced as being world renowned, I have never heard of him before.
I didn’t even know there was such a job like a polisher log craftsman. I once accidentally found out about log craftsmen chair makers from the net a long time ago.

[Onii-chan, lend me some manga, ‘kay.] (TL Note: I will not be translating certain Japanese words because they are just so predominant that everyone knows them. Also, it loses something in the translation.)

My little sister Maruko opened my door and came inside my room.
Her full name is Maruta Mako and her nickname is Maruko, she is my little sister who is in elementary school. She is in the 5th grade and she love manga.

Her name Maruko comes from her roundish cute face.

[Today the newest volume of the manga that you buy came out today. It already arrived right. I’ve seen right~ through you.] Maruko

The manga I lent to her previously, she seems to be really into it.

[Ah, yeah. Here ya go.] Onii-chan

[Yay, thanks. Onii-chan is the best!] Maruko

Even though Maruko isn’t moving her head, her ponytail is swaying like a dog’s tail.

…What is going on with my sister’s hair? Is there a tail bone in there?

[Don’t only praise me when you are borrowing my stuff. Honestly…what a calculating sister I have.] Onii-chan

[Tee Hee.] Maruko

My sister Maruko stuck her tongue out as she said this.
And as she started laughing said.

[Since you lent me a manga, should I give you some “service”.] Maruko

This is what she said.
For being an elementary school student, she is coming off like a little devil.

[Service?] Onii-chan

As I threw her words back at her, Maruko put her lips right near my ear.

[Yep. You’re cute and adorable sister is going to present some service to you.] Maruko

This is what she whispered to me. And at the end she blew into my ear.
Honestly, a cold chill ran down my spine.

……Recently, my sister has been acting weird. What should I do?

The young girls manga magazine that Maruko reads has increased the number of works geared to older girls, this may be affecting her. She seems to be recently acting like a flirtatious girl.

For me, a virgin whose age also equals how long I haven’t had a girlfriend, I know my sister is only teasing and playing with me.

She probably thinks that since I’m her brother I would be the perfect person to practice these phrases on. The young girls manga magazine’s special “How to become a dangerously cute devilish girl” and other stuff like this.

[Onii-chan. Lay down on the bed.] Maruko

I listened to her invitation and laid on my stomach on the bed.

I had already guessed what my sister’s “service” actually is. It’s probably a massage or something.

Of course, it was a normal massage and nothing sexual, this goes without saying.
Maruko straddled my back.
She is light so it wasn’t uncomfortable.
By the way, when I looked at my reflection in the mirror in my room I could see my sister’s panties, but this meant nothing to me.
It was a stripped pattern, honestly such unnecessary information.
Well I was relieved that my sister is wearing child underwear befitting an elementary school student. If she happened to be wearing adult black panties then as her brother I would be shocked in many ways.

[Oh, my sir, you are so stiff.] Maruko

As my sister Maruko spouted random phrases she massaged my back.
Of course, Maruko had no skills and techniques for massaging me.
To be honest the massage didn’t even feel good, but the shaky massage that she put her all into for me was her form of “service” and I was satisfied with that.
After a couple of minutes my sister must have become bored with the massage, because she is now watching TV while randomly massaging my back.
She was half watching the documentary programing presenting the log craftsmen Nakamura-san when.

[Oh, that’s right, Onii-chan.] Maruko

[What?] Onii-chan

[Among my friends, there is a girl whose mother is a yoga instructor. That girl said you can also use logs in yoga.] Maruko

[O, Oh…] Onii-chan

The combination of the mystical like yoga with a log somewhat feels weird.

[It seems you lay on top of the log while doing yoga. It supposed to be good for relieving cricks
in your body, and it has a relaxation effect. It’s apparently called “Log Yoga” and it’s supposed to be pretty popular. Since you don’t do anything every day, if you are interested why don’t you try and take a lesson. They even have trial lessons.] Maruko

[Don’t just go and decide that I am free… even though I am.] Onii-chan

After several minutes passed Maruko’s hands had completely stopped showing she was fed up with doing the massage.
Besides that, she is still sitting on my back and trying to read the manga I just lent her.
……I think it’s about time to get off of me.
Just as he was about to complain, the ending theme song for the tv show they left on in the background started to play.

[Whenever I hear the ending theme song or this show I think that it is the end of Sunday…. hmm.] Maruko

10-year-old Maruko let out a weary sigh.
But for her to not feel this way over the national anime or The Sazae-san show but to feel this over this show’s passionate ending song. What a manly elementary school girl.
……But more importantly my sister. Can you please get of your brother’s back?

[But, Onii-chan is lucky.] Maruko

[What is it now?] Onii-chan

[Since you’re a neet, every day is Sunday.] Maruko

I, Maruta Makoto, am 17 years old a high school student, but currently I am not attending classes. I am a neet so everyday Sunday and a holiday to me.
My sister is still sitting on my back. She started swaying as if she was riding a mechanical bull and happily started singing.

[Everyday. Neet life. Makoto.] Maruko (TL Note: YEAH Persona 4!!)

[Don’t casually call me by my first name and dis me with some strange song.] Makoto (TL Note: Everyone probably knows this already but in Japanese you really don’t call people by the first names unless they are related to you and younger or are super close to that person. Everyone else uses a person’s last name. If it’s family then the staple Onii-chan or onee-san.)

I pretended to be mad and I did a push-up while lying down on the bed.
I tried to shake my sister of my back.
But, sadly Maruko has both great reflexes and motor skills so she quickly jumped down from my back.
On top of that my sister finished with a one liner “Hasta la vista” and she left my room.
…She has been getting pretty full of herself lately.
Well, she still is very cute. But the times she has been teasing me have been increasing. Even though I am so much older than her, she is looking down on her brother.
But the reason for me losing my respected place as the older brother is because I don’t go to school and I am somewhat of a shut in.

[Oh, but don’t worry, Onii-chan.] Maruko

Maruko who I had thought had left my room had stuck her head in gap of the open door.

[…. What?] Makoto

[For my poor Onii-chan who has no social skills, in the future if you become an absolutely useless person, since I have no choice I will support you. But, I will leave the chores to you, just like a wife.] Maruko

[Just who is a poor Onii-chan! Just who is an absolutely useless person!] Makoto

I pretended to throw the book that was next to me.

[Command: Escape] Maruko (TL Note: This one might be Dragon Quest.)

As Maruko laughed, this time she definitely ran back to her room.
……Honestly, what did she mean by supporting me. Ridiculous.
It is true that since I don’t attend class, my future is looking hopeless. But, I can’t even imagine being supported by her. My pride as her older brother won’t allow it. If it is not due to some illness, then an older brother must never be reliant on his little sister.
—-As I thought these things, a bit of me was looking forward to this. I am absolutely hopeless.

CH 6 – “A Demon-like Angel or possibly an Angel-like Demon” – Reincarnated as a Dark Elf ~The strongest magician conquers a parallel world~

And thusly Celica succeeded in infiltrating the noble’s wedding ceremony.

Since she is the stand-in for the customary role of the flower girl, Celica can’t actually join the party.

But, nobles are not cheap. Even though Celica cannot join the party, she is able to help herself to the leftover food and is free to listen to the music that is coming from the assembly hall.

The point is Celica was thrown into a room adjoining the assembly hall. But, no one was watching her.

Since the princess is coming to the party the security was strict, but they did not have enough leeway to watch a 9-year-old girl.

Well, Celica is a cute young girl that is wearing a pink dress.

Even if she gathers attention due to her being cute, the adults are not wary of her.

The fact that such a lovely girl is planning such dastardly deeds is beyond the scope of the adults’ imagination.

Inevitably, she has more freedom to act.

After her mother patted her head and said “Be a good girl and stay here”, Celica began moving around the mansion as if those words disappeared from her memory.

She gathered as much information as she could, like the state of the party or the identity and last names of the attendee’s.

Of course, Celica gathered information on the princess that should be participating today, but there wasn’t a lot to go on pertaining that subject.

The reason being the imperial princess has difficulties dealing with high society and it seems she rarely participates in such functions.

I don’t know if it was because of her having a difficult attitude or not. I think being born into the royal family is troublesome, but I had no other impressions besides this.

But if the princess comes under the control of Celica, such naive thoughts will be purged.

The royal family’s job is to participate in high society and build connections with people.

Abandoning this, living with such carefree freedom is not acceptable of the royal house.
After I thought this, the training of the princess will be put off for a later date.

Now I must find her, feign a “chance” encounter, and get close to her. This is what is crucial at this point.

Celica searched every nook and cranny of the assembly hall and mansion.
But, after several hours passed all that hard work ended in vain.

She could not find the all-important princess.
No matter how much she searched she couldn’t find hide nor hair of the princess.
Could it be that the princess isn’t coming.
The moment she thought this, an announcement rang out through the assembly hall.

[The princess did come to the party but soon felt ill, so she returned to the palace…] Announcer

Celica immediately felt dejected without having to hear the rest of the announcement.

Honestly, for what reason did I dress up in such an embarrassing outfit and sneak into this event.

Isn’t everything I’ve done today nothing more than the foolish antics of a clown. As she whispered this, she became so mad she could spit.
Since the noble’s home is covered in an expensive looking carpet she didn’t do it.

But, she still wanted to vent her stress so she looked for a place where no one is and she could be by herself.

Celica could see a balcony.
There she could complain to her hearts content and spit as much as she wants.
As she thought this and snuck into the balcony she immediately regretted her decision.
The moment she leans forward on the balcony to spit several men entered the area.

Celica could tell these men were nobles or part of the privileged class in this country by the fashionable clothes they were wearing.

The men put a barrier when they entered the balcony to hide them from prying eyes.
It is a magical barrier that stops one’s voice from being heard outside of the area.
And a tough looking bodyguard was standing guard and blocking the entrance to the balcony.
This way they can block curious intruders and foreign spies.

From the pie hole within their well-maintained moustaches they praised their own preparedness.
Honestly what stupid actions.
Even if you block the sound of one’s voice, if you can see the person’s mouth you can derive the contents of the conversation to some extent.
It’s a technique called lip-reading.

(TL Note: Yay, I learned a new Japanese word “読唇術” I will never use in a normal conversation.)

Also, a barrier is effective for those who try and enter from the outside but it’s ineffective for those who are already inside the barrier.

As proof of this the men paid no attention to the table that was already on the balcony, and they didn’t notice the girl wearing a pink dress who was hiding under the white tablecloth of said table.

Celica thought the men were both stupid and hilarious but she didn’t make fun of the men in front of her.

Thanks to them being stupid and hilarious she was able to attain some valuable information.

So, the men spoke about the information Celica wanted to know.

[It seems the imperial princess has retreated from this mansion.]

[Maybe she caught wind of our sinister plans.]

[Now now, Sir Cowell, calling it sinister plans will ruin our reputation. All we did was invite the princess, and waiting for this opportunity we would ask her to resolve herself to the important battle with our neighboring country.]

[But after inviting her, you did plan to have Princess Lunelize killed, correct?] Cowell

[That is not true. I would have her die and become a guardian angel to protect our beloved country.]

[Aren’t you the eloquent speaker. Dear sir if you didn’t have a close relationship with the person responsible for the production of weapons, I would almost believe you.] Cowell

[Dear sir, are you not also a member of the family that has for generations served in the royal knights]

As the laid criticizing remarks on each other, there was no sign of hatred or joking in their speech.

These men with showing any hesitation, or pangs of conscience, planned to kill Princess Lunelize.

From the way they were speaking, it seems a military official is in under the table dealings with a weapons company. But more important than that, at this rate Celica’s one strand of hope, Lunelize, will be killed.

All of Celica’s plans will need to be greatly revised
But, she didn’t want to immediately jump out and punish the evildoers.

Instead of this, Celica was thinking how she could use this to her advantage to start her on her way to a successful life

[…Honestly, this is unforgivable, even for someone like me.] Celica

These are not words regretting that she is selling her soul by engaging in such evil actions.
Celica only regrets that she must rely on such inferior people.

[I am embarrassed that I, for a second, considered joining these fools who plan to kill the girl and then wait for the government to take action. This calls for me to go back to my original plan.] Celica

As Celica thought this she waited for the evildoers to finish their secret meeting and then tailed one of them.

Either one was fine.

In any case, Celica aimed for the first man who left and followed after him.

That man must have drunk quite a lot of beer at the party.
With a bright red face, as if a sign of him needing to pee, the man headed to the bathroom.
With an uncertain gait, the man refused the need for the bodyguard to join him.

[Hey now, I’m not the one that needs protecting, right.] Drunk man

The man laughed.

Now,” the one that needs guarding the most is the princess, huh” is what the man was probably implying while laughing. But his actions will backfire on him.

After several minutes the man was attacked by a demon like little girl.

In the men’s restroom near the assembly hall, the man who was relieving himself was suddenly staggering.

At first the man thought that he was drunk, but then he realized that he was wrong.
He felt a dull pain in his abdomen, and from there something warm was flowing out.
The man remembered this feeling.
He once fought on the battlefield.
It was when he was known as a colonel.

From that experience the man realized that the thing that was flowing from his stomach was actually blood.

[D, Dammit why am I…?] Drunk man

After he blurted these words, his voice wouldn’t come out anymore.

He fell to his side and at the same time some young lady, no a young lady who you would still call a child was sitting on top of the man.

The girl was in her underwear.

[…Why the hell is there a little girl in her underwear here?] Drunk man

As the man spit out that question, the girl answered him.

[What’s happening now is God’s will. Here I have stabbed you in the stomach and have placed a knife at your throat, dear sir. Earlier you were speaking of a plan to kidnap this country’s princess. This is all thanks to the fate of the ones called angel. Give up.] Celica

The young girl in nothing but her underwear continued speaking.

[By the way the reason for me being in my underwear was because I didn’t want to ruin my only good dress. To a noble it may look cheap, but it’s the most expensive article in my
household.] Celica

Also, after I kill you, I don’t want to be labeled a suspect.
Celica kept this to herself. There is nothing to gain letting the man know this.

[Now then, since I have a knife at your neck I’m sure you understand that I decide whether you live or die. You can call for help if you want, or use your body to throw me off. But dear sir let it be known, I will slit your throat open before you can blink an eye.] Celica

[……] Drunk man

The man used his silence to show he understood the position he was in

[Excellent. Dear sir, if you do not wish to die then properly answer my questions.] Celica

The man nodded.
It’s helps when things go easy like this.
Celica asked two things of the man who was silently pleading for his life.
The name of the mastermind of this plan and the location where this country’s princess will be attacked.
The former will be useful to know for the future.
The latter will immediately become useful to know.
But the man easily spilled the beans, and only this worried Celica.
Celica played a certain hand that would make the man more easily tell her his secrets.
Celica gagged the man, tied him up in straw rope, and laid him down faceup. She then paid close attention to his fingers.

[Did you know that when it comes to the sense of pain, the closer one gets to the extremities of the body, the more distinct the feeling of pain becomes. But despite this, since long ago it has been considered an established tactic to start torturing someone from their fingertips.] Celica

The man’s body twitched as he heard these words.

As a military man he understood these words and realized that something had just been stabbed in between his finger and nail.

[Now dear sir, exactly how many fingers will it be before you confess? I can’t wait.] Celica

[A,Aghh!] Drunk Man

The man tried to say something but I couldn’t understand him.

In the end, Celica stabbed six of his fingers with barbecue skewers until she realized something.

[Shoot, I never decided on what the signal will be for when you are ready to talk.] Celica

She woke up the man who had passed out and was foaming at the mouth. She succeeded in attaining the important information from the man.

Incidentally when she asked the man at which finger did he feel like confessing? The man responded in protest…

[I wanted to confess after the first finger!] Drunk man

[I see, so you bravely resisted somewhat, but you didn’t immediately give in like a coward. But with that attitude I sense that our little session is only somewhat complete. Either you should have stayed silent since you were going to die, or started talking before I even started torturing you.] Celica

[…?] Drunk man

The man seems to had some difficulties understanding her words.
Ugh, it seems this man’s sense of imagination seem to somewhat be lacking. Since Celica has no other choice she will explain to him her actions.

[There is no way I can let a noble who could become a witness against me leave here alive. Even if you confessed or didn’t confess, your fate to die here had already been sealed, dear sir.] Celica

As she stated this, Celica swiped her knife sideways.

As the knife easily entered the man’s neck, as if cured beef, bright red meat became visible.

From there an endless amount of blood spilled forth.

The man stared at her as if he had something to say, but Celica only responded.

[At least be reborn in the next life as a good person. If you do that then you won’t have to die in this way again.] Celica

Celica left him with these words. She then washed the blood from her hands in the sink, put her dress back on, and exited the restroom.

On the way back, Celica ran in ta maid she knew, a coworker of her mother, at that moment Celica’s smile didn’t falter.

She continued playing the part of a pure angel.

CH 5 – “Experimental Cooking” – The Deadbeat Master and Genius Disciple’s Misunderstood Workshop

(Author’s Note: Sneaking in with a late-night upload.)

[Hmm! Ah!] Child

As Pochi happily dug around inside the black cape the child, who isn’t used to this since it’s their first experience, is crying out. I turned my back to them and started to nod to myself.

Pochi is the best~.

Of course one might be surprised by the springy texture at first.

But I’m sure you’ll immediately feel good.

Since pochi is always eating the scraps of medicinal herbs his treatment is good for the body, I also taught Pochi techniques to relieve stiff shoulders, so it perfect to warm up a body stiffened by the cold.

Being a guy who normally sleeps all the time on a hard bed and doesn’t exercise, even though I’m 27 years old sometimes I find my body creaking.

At these times, Pochi is a slime that real comes in handy.

As I was grumbling like an old man, I held the basket with the washed glass containers and arrived in front of the raw materials cabinet. I tilted my head.

[Ahh….] Child

For the food it’s annoying so the Braised Moa Pigeon I made yesterday will do, it is just dry meat and garbage vegetables with no flavor.

If I am to feed it to that child there isn’t enough nutrients.

Anyway, what’s the point of going to the trouble of swiping this kid if it will just collapse on me.

After being skinny for so long and having no stamina, making this child do something is impossible. Still I want this kid to start supporting me as soon as possible.

If I consider a miniscule amount of materials and a slight amount of effort as a prior investment to my future, then it’s all good.

As I thought this, I randomly took some preprocessed medicinal herbs and leaf buds, and the fresh carrots that the old lady forced on to me yesterday and placed them in my cart. (I am deeply puzzled at how she harvested these in the middle of winter from a kitchen garden.)

Then I made my way to the storage cabinet where the extracted liquids are lined up and tilted my head.

[Haaa!] Child

Is there anything that has a decent flavor and is nutritious.

Oh, let’s go with this. This bottle with a fish head floating in the liquid.

It’s not meant for cooking and I have no idea about the taste, but it has to be better than the bottles with snakes, frogs, or lizards.

As I thought this I poured some of the fish extract into the glass container. After this I thought I would give the child a little service and headed to the cabinet with the magically sealed bottles.

Among these bottles there is a magically sealed bottle that contains low quality purple magic gel. This is used to make healing potions. Using a syringe, I placed some drops of the gel in the food. (TL Note: 魔粘体 is the magic gel and it translates into magic sticky stuff. So I just made this gel if anyone has a better word let me know in the comments.)

…Let me at least explain what I’m putting in the food. After the practitioner dissolves materials in the alchemy pot, due to certain “magical concepts”, the “material’s effects” that are observed can be extracted. The materials that have had their “effects” removed remain at the bottom of the alchemy pot maintaining their physical composition. Any effects that couldn’t be analyzed or any magic substance that wasn’t extracted is also left separated in the alchemy pot.

[Uhhhh….!] Child

This is the same thing that occurs in the stomach of a slime following their own natural rules, furthermore alchemists have a technique that can extract the “effect” in a transient form known as “magic gel”.

And what I just put in the glass container, while not having a high purity, is a magic gel with an effect called “restoration” that will speed up a person’s natural healing ability by using their own mana.

By the way, the magical concept I mentioned earlier differs greatly based on the practitioner’s ability, sense, and knowledge. So, what really affects this is the hard work and talent of the alchemist.

When it comes to me not only do I not have the talent. I don’t even have to drive to put in any effort. Since I cannot extract anything of high-quality, I can only make mediocre products.

Even with this, it’s not like everyone can replicate these techniques, so I do make some money.

This is a perk of having a technical job. (TL Note: As in being an Alchemist is a job that requires a specific skill set that everyone doesn’t know. So he will always make money no matter how crappy of a job he does.)

…As I ramble on like this, instead of cooking it’s starting to feel like I’m preparing to do some alchemy. Well, that is all there is.

[…Nya…!] Child

For the food, this about enough materials…ingredients that I’ll use.

All that’s left is to take the food I made yesterday from the cold storage underneath the floor in the corner of the kitchen. If I combine the food with the stuff I just made and heat it should be ok.

So I quickly took the food and threw in some seasoning, then I stirred the meat and plants in the glass container, and used a magic tool to heat it up.

As it started to look ready, I gave it a taste.

The fish extract is slightly fishy and is overpowering the other flavors…

[….Yeah. Well, let’s cover it up with some liquor.] Granite

As I thought this I threw in the little cider I had and cooked off the alcohol.

[…Uh. It’s kind of sweet now.] Granite

As long as it’s nutritious and you can eat it, then anything is ok.

As long as you can eat it it’s ok, as long as you can eat it.

It should be ok since children like sweet things.

[……*collapse*] Child

Just as I finished preparing the food, the playful sounds of Pochi and the child that were coming from behind me stopped.

That’s some good timing, nice job Pochi.

As I thought this, I held the two hot glass containers with a cloth and turned around.

――And there in front of me was.

S,Someone died….!?

Of course there is no way that’s true.

There was a skinny girl that wasn’t even 10 years old with orange hair lying limp on the floor.

As she held the black cape I gave her tightly she stuck out her face which was beet red and she was breathing heavily.

Then when she realized I was looking at her, the corners of the girl’s eyes started to have tears run in them and she looked this way.

Her hair is a bit damp and there doesn’t seem to be any residue on her face.

Well when Pochi is preying on…that’s wrong. When Pochi is eating I trained it to leave as little mucus as possible. By the way after Pochi ate it’s fill, pochi immediately returned to the jar. So smart.

――But nevertheless.

[Ah? You were a girl?] Granite

Well to be honest, I don’t care about the gender, so I don’t care but.

When it comes to strength, a boy that has a lot of stamina might have been better.

However, it’s not like a girl would have a problem worth mentioning.

Besides that, the young girl that is looking up at me with eyes fill of resentment.

“What, so she can make expressions besides that expressionless stare”

I felt somewhat relieved as I thought this.

……Well you know.

If she had truly lost all of her emotions, dealing with her would be beyond my means.

If things had turned out as such, who knows how long it would take for her to finally start supporting me. That would indeed be troubling.

As I stood there nodding to myself, I called out to the girl.

[How are you? Do you feel refreshed?] Granite

[……Yes.] Child

Thanks to the medical effect of Pochi’s secretions color returned to the girl’s cheeks. I suddenly laughed as I looked down at the little girl who responded with eyes filled with resentment.

However, I knew that I shouldn’t show myself slacking off since we are at the stage where we still can’t talk to each other properly. So I put on the dignified look I practiced.

[Ok, next is food. Now let’s eat at that table over there.] Granite

As I said this, I gestured to the table where there was a piece of black bread and a jug of water.

Then, the girl seemed to finally smell the soup I was holding in my hand.

[Um…] Child

As the girl went between looking at me and then the soup in my hands again and again. She let out a small voice while looking bewildered.

What? I’m sure she is hungry. I don’t understand this girl.

She should act like a brat from the slums and just start eating.

I’m the kind of person who is annoyed when someone is reserving themselves when I try to do something for them.

By the way, anyone who acts like it’s obvious for people to do stuff for them are also very annoying.

I can’t believe this. Who does she think she is? (TL Note: This dude needs to chill)

[What’s wrong? Hurry up before it gets cold.] Granite

I said this while rushing her as I made my way to the table first. I put the soup on the table and sat down. Then I poured some water on the rye bread and forcefully tore some off.

The child sat where she was and stared at me with a frozen expression. After a while she slowly stood up.

At first she slowly walked over but then broke into a short run. She didn’t seem used to sitting at a table as she climbed the high chair. Then she at the place in front of me. (TL Note: She is 10 years old now, so I imagine she is too small to sit in a chair normally without climbing into it.)

As the girl was slightly shaking she stared at the piping hot soup and the torn rye bread in front of her, I called out to her.

[If you don’t dip the rye bread in the soup, the bread is really hard. …Oh maybe you don’t know how to use the cutlery? You cut it like this.] Granite

In order to show her an example I took some of the meat with my fork and took a bite as I soaked the rye bread in the soup.

As the girl sat there silently watching me, she finally mimicked what I did and as she took a bite…

――Tears rolled down from her eyes, she had a calm expression as if she was a saint.

Tears rolled down her sunken cheeks.

Without wiping away the tears, all she did was eat her food, hands shaking, and with an expression as if she happy from the bottom of her heart.

I wanted to ask her several things while we ate, but after seeing her like this all I could do was stare while not saying a word.

So after some time past, the young girl finished the soup and cleaned her plate.

Whether it’s thanks to the “restorative” effects, the medicinal herbs, or the secretions of Pochi who diligently covered her skin.

Compared to how she was when I first met her she seems like a different person. The young girl who has the life returned back to her wipes her tears. Even though she was expressionless just a while ago now as I stared at her she had a smile.

In those clear green eyes that were looking at me I couldn’t sense any of the emptiness from before.

To be honest, how can such a young girl change so drastically is beyond me. I pondered this to myself.

Did I do something?

All I did was clean her up, and gave her some food I just threw together.

That’s all I did there is no reason for her to have a face that says “thank you for saving me.”.

Yeah, it’s ok since she seems easy to deal with.

Well, it’s ok.

I’m sure due to the slime massage and her stomach being full she is just acting strange.

It happens. It happens.

For example, if I am gambling while drinking and I use all my money when I’m on a roll. I feel awesome at that moment even though I know I will regret it later.

The fact that in exchange for this brief moment of happiness you will work for my sake is something you will come to regret.

As I thought of such horrible things, the girl has been quiet for a while. So I decided to put on a serious face and continue the conversation but right before this.

Before I could say anything the girl spoke.

[Um…] Child

Thanks to finally getting some food, the child’s voice finally started to sound high-pitched like someone her age.

Then the girl with a smile on her faced jumped off from the chair.

[What’s wrong? Do you need to use the restroom?] Granite

She grasped the cape and made her way toward me. And she looked at me as I called out to her.

[….Magician-sama. Since before, have you been, doing that, on purpose?] Child (TL Note: Ok so this is weird. The author doesn’t use kanji for when the girl is talking only hiragana {one of the phonetic alphabets}. So, I took this as her speaking in a weird way, so I will break up her sentences with commas to accurately represent this.)

[What? What do you mean since before? I have done nothing on purpose.] Granite

[Ha. No,… it’s nothing. Um… Magician-sama, I am ready.] Child

The girl gulped as she said this and made a soft yet weird smile.

I wanted to ask what did she mean by “I’m ready”. But she continued speaking right before I could open my mouth.

――The next words out of her mouth left me dumbfounded.

[Magician-sama. Thank you, so much for, everything. The food was, very, very, good. I am very happy, for all the, ways you have, saved me tonight. That’s why, now it’s my, turn to give something. Please… ] Child

[Use me, as a sacrifice!] Child

[…???] Granite

What the hell is this girl saying??

I became silent without thinking and I stared at the girl’s face looking for some sort of answer.

Sacrifice? As in sacrificing someone right. Where did she get that idea, that’s so scary…

Why would I do something that I would never be able to take back as long as I live.

Even thought my motto is “Be honest to my desires, but be that as it may avoid anything troublesome”.

As I wondered what this child was thinking, one of the skulls in my room came into my field of vision.

No way, you’ve got to be kidding me. I am such an idiot.

Would someone normally make such a basic mistake?

Taking everything that’s happened into account, you can understand just how lacking my powers of imagination really are.

She must think I am some sort of dangerous magician or something.

Since I stood there silently while I frantically worked my normally unused brain, the little girl in front of me desperately tried to maintain her smile as tears welled up in her eyes.

As I realized this, I hurriedly opened my mouth.

[Uh, well you see――] Granite

[Am I, not able, to be of use, to magician-sama!] Child

[No, that’s not it――] Granite

[Please! If it’s for, the magician-sama, who took my hand, I will give everything I have! But the only thing, I have to give is myself! That’s why!] Child

[Doing something so dangerous is…] Granite

[I, I don’t want, my life to end while, I’m alone! Please.] Child

T,This kid… She keeps talking over meeee!!

She’s doing it on purpose, right?! I can’t explain myself like this!!

And what the hell do you mean by “wanting to become a sacrifice”, I have no idea what she’s trying to say.

Please speak using words and reasoning that I understand!!

Ha, my stomach has started to hurt… Please, just listen to what I am trying to say!

――After shaking off the shock I stood up and tried to hold down the young girl who must being going through some trip. (TL Note: The author actually uses the word トリップ as if he is implying she is tripping after getting high. I left it in even though it’s kind of weird.)

[I will become a sacrifice!] Child

As the little girl said this she threw the black cape to the ground.

Now she is butt-naked and running to the heated alchemy pot.

What are you saying?!?!?!?!

What the hell do you mean “I’ll become a sacrifice”!?!

The only person in the whole world who is unlucky enough to hear that is me.

This girl, everything she does is extreme. (TL Note: Granite probably means how she was super scary when he met her, then all of the crying with the food and now all the talk about sacrificing herself. I kind of agree…)

[Hey, wait. Calm down!!!] Granite

As I shouted this the little girl used the chair to jump over the table. I chased after the surprisingly fast girl but she had already arrived near the alchemy pot, there was no way I would reach her in time.

I felt time slow down.

Inside of this slowed down time, “Ah, this is how my life is going to end…” is what I thought as I was eerily. I laughed and sighed.

There is no way a coward like me could withstand being a criminal.

Goodbye, the carefree life of my dreams. Hello, the life of a criminal…

――With this I helplessly gave up on living but then.

The situation reached an unforeseen conclusion.

[Waah] Child

There was a skull lying near the alchemy pot.

Then the young girl who had volunteered to sacrifice herself stepped on the skull and fell over.

As I watched this happen I thought.

Life can drag you down to the bottom or save you with just the littlest things.

CH 5 – “Pink Dress” – Reincarnated as a Dark Elf ~The strongest magician conquers a parallel world~

TL Note: Yay more 1st and 3rd person musically chairs. I am so happy…….

Lunelize Von Grantz.
She is a beautiful princess with golden hair.
She is 9 years old, the same as me.
Her facial features are similar to mine.
The only difference is our races and the color of our hair.
She is a human child, the daughter of the current emperor.
Celica is an elf child, and she is a half-breed dark elf.

Lunelize blond hair and fair white skin seems like the very opposite of Celica’s silver hair and dark skin.

It’s just like the head and tails of a coin.
There is no way for me to not think like that.
(TL Note: Yay double negatives.)

Two people who would normally never meet and their lives would normally never intertwine.

If these two met, became acquainted, and became friends, it would show how life is truly mysterious

――But then this is Celica’s plan, also this plan has yet to be put into action.

[Still, I will definitely execute my plan. If I can get this Lunelize girl under my command.] Celica

Then Celica would enter into the military elementary school and proceed into the military academy.
If she thinks about it, winning over one little girl should pose no difficulties.
In order for Celica to make good on her own promise, she began to pester her mother.

[Mother, there is supposed to be a wedding at the noble’s house you work at right? Please take me.] Celica

Her mother was bewildered by the sudden pestering of her daughter.

[What’s with you all of a sudden?] Celica’s mother

[I can’t go? I want to see the beautiful bride.] Celica

[Celica wants to see the bride, huh. Hoho. Celica is definitely a girl.] Celica’s mother

That was a response that made Celica want to puke.
Why would anyone want to see a bride?
All Celica wants to see is the imperial princess that will be coming to the wedding ceremony.

Lunelize is well known so Celica heard that she would be participating from her mother.

Celica has no interest in the bride, groom or any of the delicacies form all over that will be served there.

All that she cares about it her own life.
So, she added to her earlier request.

[So, it’s ok right? You know the person who stands in front of the bride and throws petals. I want to do that.] Celica

[Do you mean the flower girl?] Celica’s mother

[Yeah, that.] Celica

Flower girl, what a shitty name. I don’t want to do it, but I need an excuse for me to slip in.

[But that position has already been decided. The daughters of a distinguished noble and a merchant will be the flower girls.] Celica’s mother

[But sometimes people get sick the day of the ceremony, right? Since the princess is coming it would be disrespectful if there aren’t enough flower girls. Won’t there be a need for an emergency stand-in.] Celica

[…You might be right. Maybe I will as the butler Hans-san.] Celica’s mother

But don’t get your hopes up. Is what her mother continued to say.
I won’t’ do that is how she responded to herself.
The fact is Celica’s mother is a maid at a noble’s house and the princess was coming to said house.
This is a once in a lifetime chance.
If she lets this opportunity go by, the chance for poor dark elf girl Celica to meet the princess will never come again.
To let this, go by would be outrageous.
Celica will do all she can.
In a soft voice, Celica pulled on her mother’s arm.

[Please wait before you ask Hans-san.] Celica

[Why?] Celica’s mother

[Now is a very busy time, right? That’s why I think next week Monday is better.] Celica

[You’re right. The weekends are busy.] Celica’s mother

As the ceremony approaches they will become busier.

But if we tell the butler this great plan now, he will definitely ask a daughter of a good house to be the backup flower girl.
If we don’t propose this idea right before the ceremony that all of this will be for nothing.

At that point if they realize they need a flower girl that late that is when the daughter of servant will be chosen.

Actually, Celica was able to hold back her mother from asking right away. And then 3 days before the ceremony when her mother presented this idea to the butler, just as she predicted he chose Celica as the flower girl.

There were other servants who has daughters, but I was chosen since I am known for being beautiful.

I have never once been thankful for being born a girl, but that day only I was thankful for being born a beautiful girl.

But then, that only lasted one day.
The next day. My mother took me out into the town.
My mother then said this.

[Celica, let’s buy you a dress.] Celica’s mother

It was at this time I first realized.

If I am to participate in a wedding, I would have to wear a fluttering dress.

This is a disgrace, and absolute disgrace.

Just as Celica had become accustomed to sitting down when using the restroom, she has not been able to deal with wearing a skirt and a breeze blowing between her legs.
In this parallel world it is weird for girls to wear pants, so she has had no choice but to wear a skirt. But up until now she has yet to wear a dress.

You could say it was her last vestige of pride that she defended, you could also say that the opportunity never presented itself until now.

[Shit, what do I have to wear a dress?] Celica

As she screamed inside of her head, there is no way she is getting out of wearing a dress.
You cannot wear normal clothes at the wedding ceremony of a noble.
Putting on a dress is an absolute condition.

Since there is no other choice Celica resigned myself, she was taken to a second-hand clothes store. For 3 hours her mother made her change clothes like a doll.

[Celica is just as cute as a doll. Since you don’t have any interest in western clothes, the chance to do this rarely comes.] Celica’s mother

Her mother pulled out all the stops.
And Celica stood there as if her soul was ripped out of her.

[Is that right?]
[I think the cheapest one would be fine.]

This is all that Celica said.

In the end, the dress that was picked for her was a one-piece pink dress.

Celica’s brown skin and silver hair shine in this dress, is the reason that were given to her. But when she looked at the price she was startled.

Isn’t it too expensive?
As Celica sent a protesting stare to her mother, she responded happily.

[Since Celica never asks me to buy a toy, or take you on a trip, or anything that a normal child would. This is the only time I can splurge and get you something nice.] Celica’s mother

Honestly, this is why women are just too much.
There is no way Celica would want something like a toy.

What Celica wants isn’t a dress or a toy, but the power and authority to control this country.

Compared to this, satisfaction from physical things leaves something to be desired.
As Celica thought such harsh things, she made her way home with her mother.
